What are some things to consider when going abroad? In this short interview, Daiki discusses:
· Why he left his home country of Japan;
· Finding opportunities in your industry;
· Biggest tips/takeaways from living abroad.
Tell us about your background. What drove you to go abroad?

Daiki Yoshioka, Schwarzman Scholar
I am originally from Japan. I decided to study abroad to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in the United States, then a Master’s degree in China because I never felt like I quite fit in within Japanese society.
What is your biggest takeaway + tip(s) from living abroad?
I would say that taking actions is important. Simply put: I think that if you act, everything will follow.
What would you advise to people who may be the first in their family and/or come from underrepresented backgrounds to consider when going abroad?
I think it is so important to be kind to yourself. Do not compare yourself with others. Rather, try to compare yourself with the person you were yesterday.
How did you find opportunities within your industry?
Networking! In fact, LinkedIn is a great channel that led to the building of high-quality relationships in a foreign country.
If you had to move to study, work or start a business abroad, what would you do differently?
For the United States, I would have done more research about the opportunities in the country. I also would have learned more about communities to join and be a part of.
Do you have any final words for those interested in living, studying, or working abroad?
I want to double down on networking. It is so underrated. It is important to invest in connecting with people and professionals.
